The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

In the heart of the captivating rolling hills, resided a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His main role was mainly to care for his herd of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the breezes among the solo tree on the hilltop were his only companions. Day after day, guarding his wards imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome plan.

Stories of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to help but found no wolf.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank laughed for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the website boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
